4,000 MW to be included in system by 2018: KP CM

PESHAWAR: (APP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Monday said that 4,000 MW of electricity would be included in the system by February 2018 through hydel power projects.

Presiding over a meeting with Chairman WAPDA here at CM house, he said that various projects of hydel power generation are in process that would generate 4,000 MW of electricity. Senior Member Board of Revenue, Administrative Secretaries and others were also present.

Chief Minister said Munda Dam stood approved that will protect the entire Peshawar valley from future flood devastation. He directed expeditious land acquisition for Bhasha Dasu Dams and working out the plan that will manage and run Pehure Project.

He further directed the officials concerned to extend regulatory framework for all natural water flow streams throughout the province.

The meeting had a detailed discussion on the land acquisition for the Bhasha and Dasu Dams and the management and running of Pehure Project.

The Chief Minister directed to evolve a workable mechanism for the management and operationalization of Pehure project.

On the occasion, the Chairman WAPDA added that the provincial government should firm up their claims for additional electricity to be brought to the national system in the overall net hydel profit, claims in order to avert any uneasiness in future.

The meeting was told about the disputed issues of the land acquisition for Dasu Dam in areas such as Sagloo, Zaal and Kass of Kohistan. It also discussed the 969 acres of land available for the construction work and catchment area of the dams.

Pervez Khattak directed for finding a reasonable solution to the problems and extending incentives to the people. He also directed for proper relocation of affected people and the provincial government departments and WAPDA should sit together to reach a reasonable solution.

The CM asked for the upgradation of system in Chitral so that the electricity to be produced through different projects as being negotiated with FWO could be carried out by the upgraded system. Chairman WAPDA assured cooperation in this regard.

Pervez Khattak said that Chashma Lift Canal Scheme has been approved in the context of China Pakistan Economic Corridor. The Chinese have indicated their willingness for upgrading Rashakai Industrial City on 40,000 kanal of land and the relocation of different labour intensive industries.

He hoped that the construction of different small and medium reservoirs including Munda would overcome the drinking water facilities in Peshawar valley. He however, stressed for the construction of Barrages on Swat and Dir rivers that would lead to protect the entire population on both sides of the two rivers who were devastated by the flood in the past.
