Newly elected govt now responsible for construction of dams: CJP

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar says elected government is now responsible for construction of new dams in the country.

Hearing a case regarding construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams, the Chief Justice said that new government can take over control of collecting Dam funds.

He said the judiciary could not manage details of the project, such as the design and to whom the work should be contracted.

Referring to the controversial Kalabagh dam, Justice Nisar said consensus in this regard would be left to the public and their elected representatives.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice said that government is collecting extensive taxes in electricity bills and directed there should be a proper mechanism for collection of taxes.

Later, the court adjourned hearing of the case for indefinite period.
