Yet another foreign female tourist raped in India

NEW DELHI - A British female tourist has been raped inside a five star hotel in India.

A 28-year-old staff member of the spa at a five-star hotel in Chandigarh has been booked by police for allegedly raping a 50-year-old British woman last week. Police said they have registered a case against a masseur after the woman accused him of raping her when she visited the spa at the hotel where she was staying.

The woman, a British national, arrived in Chandigarh on December 19 and was staying in a five-star hotel in IT Park, Chandigarh with a companion. In a complaint to the police on December 27, the woman said she was raped by the masseur on December 20.

The accused, who belongs to Bijnore in Uttar Pradesh, is on the run.

According to an Indian Express report, the woman in her complaint alleged that the accused deliberately touched her private parts during the massage while he was told to massage only foot to knee. The woman, a medical professional, is said to be in her early 50s.

"The victim lodged her protest before the hotel management on the same day and within hours, the hotel management terminated the services of the employee, Farhan Jama. He was residing at a rented accommodation in Mauli Jagran, Manimajra. He is now absconding,” a police official was quoted as saying in the report.

The woman, who was initially indecisive on taking police action, lodged a formal complaint after returning from a trip to Shimla on December 27.
