Imran Khan's petition on Panama Paper rejected by Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD (APP): Registrar office of the Supreme Court on Tuesday raised objections on a petition filed by Imran Khan Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking action over Panama Papers saying this petition prima facie appears to be a frivolous petition within the contemplation of Order XVII Rule 5 of the Supreme Court Rules, 1980.

The Registrar office said that the petitioner has not approached other appropriate forum or high court for redressal of his grievances.

The Registrar office said that the certificate provided in the Constitution petition does not fulfill the requirements of a certificate as required under Rule 6 of Order XXV of Supreme Court Rules, 1980.

The Registrar Office directed the petitioner to directly invoke the extraordinary jurisdiction of the Supreme Court under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, which is not permissible in terms of judgment reported as 1998 SCMR 793 (Zulifqar Mehdi vs. PIA, etc.)
