Iraq has regretted United States's decision to pull out its diplomats from Basra city.
In a statement, Iraqi Foreign Ministry said the government is committed to protecting foreign diplomatic missions on its territory and securing them.
The ministry's statement came after U.S. State Department decided to close its consulate in Basra blaming Iran for posing security threats to the area.
Basra has been rocked by weeks of demonstrations by Iraqis protesting unemployment and government inefficiency in the oil-rich south.
