Gwadar: Asian MPs discuss means to promote trade and economic cooperation

Acting President Sadiq Sanjrani has said Pakistan is poised to become a hub of regional and international trade as a result of its strategically located deep sea Gwadar Port.

He was addressing the opening session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly's Standing Committee on Political Affairs and the Special Committee for the Creation of an Asian Parliament in Gwadar today.

The Acting president said bringing Balochistan and Gwadar city into the national mainstream development is part of our agenda.

He said Balochistan is rich in mineral resources and their exploration and development can change the destiny of not only Pakistan but the entire region.

Sadiq Sanjrani said holding of this conference in Gwadar has also helped offset the negative impression created about the area.

The Acting President called for greater collaboration amongst the Asian countries to realize the dream of a socially, economically and culturally integrated Asia.

He said we want resolution of lingering disputes with India as it is vital to achieve the goals of development in the region.

Sadiq Sanjrani pointed out that Pakistani nation and armed forces have rendered great sacrifices in both men and material in the war on terror. He said the international community also recognizes these sacrifices.

Later ,talking to media in Gwadar today, Acting President Sadiq Sanjrani said the conference has been progressing successfully and we will bring three to four resolutions in it.

Referring to developments in Gwadar, Sadiq Sanjrani said it has been decided to open a campus of Comsats University in the city.

He said the Chinese companies working on various projects in the port city have assured to plant one million trees to make it greener.

Acting President said the capacity of desalination plant to provide drinking water to the residents has been enhanced to 2.5 million gallons.

He said three more desalination plants will be set up in the city to increase this capacity to five million gallons. Sadiq Sanjrani said work on optical fiber has been completed and it will be inaugurated soon.

Over 100 parliamentarians from 26 Asian countries, including China, Saudi Arabia and Iran, are participating in the conference.
