Babri Mosque demolition was the biggest failure of the Indian Government: President Pranab Mukherjee
NEW DELHI: President Pranab Mukherjee has held the country’s former Prime Minister Narsimha Rao responsible for the demolition of the Babri Mosque in 1992 and said that it was the biggest failure of the Indian Government.
Pranab Mukherjee has written in his book The Turbulent Years: 1980-96 that the demolition was an act of pure dishonesty and made all Indians hang their heads in shame.
He said that this incident has deeply hurt the sentiments of Muslim community in the world and destroyed India’s image as a tolerant pluralistic nation where all religions live in peace and harmony.
Hindu zealots attacked Babri Mosque in Ayodhya in 1992 in which at least 2000 Muslims died.
Babri Mosque demolition was an act of Hindu extremism that badly exposed the face of true Hindu extremists in India.
However with the passage of time such acts of Hindu extremism have become a routine matter in India where burning mosques and churches has become a matter of pride for the Hindu extremist organisations like Shiv Sinai, RSS, Bajrang Dal and many others which take such acts as a feather in the cap.
