UN Chief reiterates mediation offer to India, Pakistan for Kashmir issue

UNITED NATIONS (APP): Amid heightening tensions between India and Pakistan, the United Nations Wednesday reiterated Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's offer of his good offices to mediate the issues between the two countries, provided both sides agree to his mediation.

"Our position on the good offices (of the secretary-general) remains the same," the secretary-general's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at the regular noon briefing in response to series of questions.

Ban's office has repeatedly said that the UN chief's good offices are available on helping resolve the Kashmir and other issues only if both India and Pakistan request for it.
