LAHORE - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) PCB takes important decision over Mohammad Hafeez Controversy linked with Coronvirus testing.
PCB has decided not to take any disciplinary action against veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez, after the latter opted to undertake a novel coronavirus (Covid-19) test at a private lab in Lahore.
Hafeez, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) during phase one of the medical tests conducted for the tour of England, had tested negative after opting for a second opinion, privately, on Wednesday.
The 39-year-old, in a tweet, shared a snapshot of the test results while confirming that he and his family had tested negative upon approaching an external source.
The all-rounder’s tweet raised question marks over the testing process being followed in Pakistan. The PCB was not happy with the fact that Hafeez released the result of his second Covid-19 test, without informing the board officials first.
After much confusion, the board conducted a retest on Hafeez and other players, who had tested positive in the first round of testing. According to the results of the retests, Hafeez tested negative for Covid-19.
The PCB was initially contemplating taking action against Hafeez. However, since the all-rounder is not centrally contracted with the board, they decided against it. The board also wants to avoid any further controversy regarding this matter.
The board was worried that if they decide to drop Hafeez from the squad, it could lead to further controversy. The all-rounder will now travel to England after he clears his second Covid-19 test at a later date.
The entire episode has been a cause of embarrassment for PCB and the federal government is also not happy with it.
