Presidential election: CEC accepts nomination papers of all three candidates

Chief Election Commissioner Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza scrutinized nomination papers of the presidential candidates in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Nomination papers of three main contestants were found to be in order.

Later, talking to newsmen, PTI candidate Dr. Arif Alvi expressed the confidence that he would be elected with thumping majority.

To a question, he said people have given clear mandate to PTI and Imran Khan in the general elections.

PPP nominee Aitzaz Ahsan said his nomination papers have been accepted by the Chief Election Commissioner.

To a question he acknowledged that the opposition was in a disadvantageous position because of lack of agreement on a consensus candidate. He said so far there was no consensus among opposition parties on fielding a joint candidate.

PML (N) leader Ahsan Iqbal said his party nominated Maulana Fazlur Rehman as presidential candidate as he might be acceptable to PPP as well.

He said if there was no unity among opposition then PTI candidate would get a walk over in the election.
