CJP Justice Saqib Nisar promises to give justice

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar has said he will not be able to forgive himself if he does not fulfill his responsibility of providing justice.

“Model courts have achieved the desired results and we have achieved this without changing the law and through the teamwork of judges and lawyers,” Justice Saqib Nisar said while addressing participants of the Punjab judicial academy on Saturday.

“I will not be able to forgive myself if, we [judiciary], do not fulfill our constitutional, legal and ethical responsibility,” he added.

The statement comes a week after the top court directed the constitution of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the Sharif family’s alleged offshore assets abroad. The team has been tasked to furnish its report within two months.

The SC, in its April 20 verdict, did not disqualify the premier citing absence of adequate evidence in the case.

The CJP stressed that cases pending with the courts should be disposed off at the earliest because any person whose rights have been usurped cannot remain patient.
