KABUL - The former Afghan lawmaker and Jihadi leader Abdul Rab Rasool Sayyaf says it would be impossible to ensure peace and stability in the country as long as the fifth pillar continues to operate within the government.
Speaking during a gathering to mark the death anniversary of Burhaddin Rabbani, the former president and high peace council chief, Sayyaf said the ongoing situation and violence in the country has direct links with the fifth pillar.
He called on the government to take immediate steps for the elimination of the fifth pillar but did not disclose further information in this regard.
This comes as the Afghan officials have long been insisting that not such a thing as fifth pillar is existing in the government.
Speaking to lawmakers in the Upper House of the Parliament, Meshrano Jirga, earlier in June, the Afghan intelligence chief Masoom Stanikzai said the term ‘5thpillar’ is a rumor spread by the political circles and such a thing or circle does not exist in the government.
Stanikzai further added that the existence of the 5th or 6thpillar is baseless and it is only the rumors being spread due to the political rivalries.
The NDS chief also rejected that the current system is facing threats of collapse but warned that inappropriate remarks and spread of rumors could take the country towards a crisis.
