Pakistan demands India to immediately release detained Kashmiri activist

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Pakistan on Tuesday strongly condemned the continued illegal detention of well-known Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez and demanded his immediate release.

"We urge India to release him immediately and unconditionally. We further urge India to desist from stifling the voices of human rights defenders and media personnel in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir," Foreign Office said in a statement issued here.

The Foreign Office "noted with deep concern" that India continued to engage in committing worst form of state terrorism in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Khurram Parvez is the Chairperson of Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD) and Programme Coordinator of Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) which released a mammoth report last year highlighting obnoxious human rights violations being committed in IOK by Indian occupational forces.

Khurram Parvez was arrested on September 16 on flimsy grounds under the draconian law `Public Safety Act'. Even after the court's orders for his release, he is being kept under illegal detention.

Human rights organizations including Amnesty International, have urged upon India for Parvez's immediate and unconditional release.

Earlier, India did not allow Khurram Parvez to travel to Geneva to participate in the ongoing session of UN Human Rights Council.
