BEIJING - Top Chinese official responds over the Afghan Taliban and US new round of talks.

Zhang Jun, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, at a plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday called on the US and Taliban to continue negotiations, Xinhua reported.

He also elaborated on his country's position regarding Afghanistan and introduced efforts to help Afghanistan move forward with peace and reconciliation, strengthen security capacity-building and promote economic and social development.

The international community should continue to provide support and assistance to Afghanistan, he said, saying that China supports promoting an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned inclusive political process.

He also called on all parties involved in the Afghan conflict, including the Taliban, to seize the historic opportunities and launch intra-Afghan negotiations to reach a political framework acceptable to all parties as soon as possible, he said, TOLO News has reported.
