Accused involved in breaking bank lockers arrested

KARACHI: Deputy Inspector General of Police Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Arif Hanif claimed that two members of a gang involved in breaking the lockers of different private banks had been arrested.

Addressing a presser at Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Office, he said accused Syed Muhammad and Muhammad Ali Bahadur Khan were involved in breaking the lockers and both were the members of a gang belonging to Kurram Agency.

He said accused Syed Muhammad was arrested from Kurram Agency while Muhammad Ali was arrested in a raid from Gulshan Iqbal area.

Arif Hanif sharing details of the incident in which the arrested accused were involved apprised that both were involved in robberies at a private commercial bank in DHA Phase-II near Tooba Masjid on January 29 and another private commercial bank at Gulshan Iqbal on March 3.

The DIG said accused Muhammad Ali used to plan the robberies and in each case he had the help of the private security guards deputed in the banks. Muhammad Ali used to get his men appointed in the banks for the purpose.

The police recovered Rs 1.1 million cash, two cars and equipment including five gas cylinders, cutters, two hammers and other accessories from the accused, he added.

Arif Hanif said accused Muhammad Ali has been jailed earlier for his involvement in a case of robbery from Pakistan Lockers at Nishter Road on April 5, 2014.
