KARACHI: A special coin in honor of celebrated humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi will be issued on March 31, the State of Bank of Pakistan said on Tuesday.
Edhi, who founded Pakistan’s largest welfare organizations single handedly, died in July last year.
He was honored with country’s state funeral. The funeral was attended by the army chief and top politicians of the country.
The State Bank said last year it would issue a commemorative coin of Rs. 50 in memory of late Abdul Sattar Edhi as a small token of appreciation to remember him in the history of Pakistan.
Edhi and his team created maternity wards, morgues, orphanages, shelters, and homes for the elderly -- all aimed at helping those in society who cannot help themselves and picking up where limited government-run services fell short.
Frail and weak in his later years, Edhi appointed his son Faisal as managing trustee in early 2016.
