Shahbaz Sharif cries foul play

LAHORE – Former Punjab CM and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said that the arrests of party leaders have raised question mark on the transparency of the forthcoming general elections.
Expressing his concerns over the arrests of PML-N leader, Shehbaz Sharif said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) should end the impression of being his party on target.
“The arrests have raised question mark on the transparency of the upcoming election,” he added.
The ex-Punjab CM also demanded the ECP to immediately take notice of the situation and said that the anti-graft body’s revenge activities is an attempt to harm party’s electoral campaign.
“We have approached the ECP against NAB’s revenge activities under article 218(3) of the constitution,” he said and added it is the responsibility of the Commission to provide political parties equal opportunities of free election campaign.
Shehbaz went on to say that portraying the party’s politics of service as a crime was wrong, adding that the PML-N is most famous party of the country.

Earlier, on Monday, the anti-graft agency had apprehended PML-N leader and candidate against Ch Nisar from NA-59 Engineer Qamrulul Islam.
Besides Qamerul Islam, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Waseem Ajmal has also been arrested who was appointed illegally.
According to NAB, the PML-N leader had awarded contract of 84 water treatment plants unlawfully and water plants in four Tehsils mentioned costly in bidding papers based on dishonesty.
According to NAB, the accused had awarded contract to SB Pumps Company and KSB Pumps Company on high rates, and got contract of 102 water plants contract approved from board of directors.
