Indian Army opens straight fire on Kashmiris, killing at least three youth

Two civilians were killed today when security forces fired on a group of stone pelters in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

SSP Shopian Sri Ram Ambarkar told India Today that the Army convoy came under heavy stone pelting at Ganapora area in Shopian. The soldiers in retaliation opened few shots resulting in injuries to few youth, he said.

"Two of the injured died and the condition of other injured is being ascertained," Ambarkar said.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Shopian Dr Bashir told media agencies that they received at least eight injured persons in the hospital of which the two seriously wounded succumbed to injuries.

Two of the injured youth who succumbed to injuries have been identified as Javaid Ahmad Bhat and Suhail Javid Lone.

The situation in Ganovpora and adjoining areas is tense following the killing of the youths.

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan told India Today that deputy commissioner Shopian has been asked to probe into the incident. "The officer has been asked to complete the inquiry within 20 days," he added.

Separatists joint leadership has given a strike call on Sunday against the killings in Kashmir.
