HAFIZABAD: (APP) New era of green revolution would ushr in the Punjab due to unprecedented agricultural package for providing interest-free loan to small cultivators, said DC Muhammad Ali Randhawa here Saturday.
While addressing the meeting of District Agricultural Advisory Committee, he said that the Punjab Government had announced Rs.100 billion interest-free loan to small cultivators and so far 448 cultivators in the district have been disbursed first installment.
He stressed the need for accelerating the pace of distribution of the loan to facilitate the loanees to maximise their food production .
He further said that 5007 small cultivators out of 7300 have so far been registered and directed the personnel of concerned departments to convey the message to the small cultivators in remote areas so that maximum number of growers would be benefitted from this pro-cultivator policy of the government.
Deputy Director Agriculture extension Mehar Rab Nawaz briefed the meeting that 2293 small cultivators in Hafizabad tehsil and 2714 in Pindi Bhattian tehsil have so far been registered. Moreover, 58 growers have been provided laser land levellers through transparent draw of ballot.
Furthermore, efforts were being made to prevent wastage of irrigational water and 61 distributaries were being bricklined to prevent seepage of water.
