Candidate registration starts for Afghan parliamentary elections

KABUL: In Afghanistan, the process of registration of candidates for upcoming parliamentary and district elections, began on Saturday.

Head of the Independent Election Commission, Gula Jan Badi Sayad, told a news conference in Kabul today that registration would be open for the next twelve days. 

Elections for the national parliament and district councils are due to be held on Oct. 20, this year.

Sayad said some 3.2 million people have been registered to vote so far, which is still well short of the potential electorate of 14 million.
