Nuclear Imaging Services launched at Quaid e Azam International Hospital

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital inaugurated its first Nuclear Imaging Service (Installation of Gamma Camera) here on Monday.

It will provide new paradigm in care of heart diseases especially in patients who complain of chest pain said Dr. Ishtiaq Malik Consultant Nuclear Cardiologist of Quaid e Azam International Hospital while inaugurating the facility, says a press release.

He said that Present practice in Pakistan for such patient is to get patient to cardiac catheterization and if there is blockage in coronary artery or arteries, patient will get single or multiple stents based on appearance of coronary arteries.

Dr. Malik explained various features of the Nuclear Imaging Service and said that Nuclear Imaging is a branch of medical imaging that uses small  amount of radioactive material to diagnose and determine the severity of or treat a variety of diseases including many types of cancers, heart diseases , Gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurological disorder and other abnormalities within the body.

He updated that Nuclear cardiology services nuclear imaging services department will also provide all nuclear scans like Renal DMSA, GRF estimation, bone, liver etc. will be available for general public.

QIH has privileges to offer these critical services to cardiac patients through department nuclear imaging services headed by Dr Ishtiaq A. Malik who is board certified nuclear cardiology and practiced over fifteen years in USA. He will supervise and direct cardiac services at QIH and will new paradigm in management of cardiac services in Pakistan.
