US fires Inter Continental Ballistic Missile amid tensions with North Korea
WASHINGTON: US military test fired its second inter-continental ballistic missile ‘Minuteman III’ amid of rising tensions with North Korea and Russia.
US Deputy Defence Secretary Robert Work claimed that US conducted at least 15 tests since 2011 and conveyed a message to its competitors that US have effective nuclear arsenal.
He said “We and the Russians and the Chinese routinely do test shots to prove that the operational missies that we have are reliable. And that is a signal that we are prepared to use nuclear weapons in defence of our country if necessary.”
The move came after the North Korea’s launch of satellite with a long range ballistic missile technology.
Recently China and US also drafted a resolution to UN Security Council to put more sanctions against North Korea for its controversial nuclear programme.
US will also deploy advanced missile defence system THAAD in South Korea to counter the threat of North Korea’s weapons.
