Former PM Nawaz Sharif produced before Accountability Court

*ISLAMABAD - Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appeared before an accountability court in Islamabad, on Monday, for the hearing of remaining two corruption cases against him and his family.*

Accountability court II Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik is hearing Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references.

Nawaz Sharif was transported to the court from Adiala jail amid tight security.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday extended the deadline, to conclude remaining graft cases against Sharifs, for six more weeks.

Accountability court II Judge Arshad Malik had approached the apex court for an extension in the deadline to wrap up Flagship and Al-Azizia references against Nawaz Sharif and his family.

Nawaz Sharif was arrested on July 13 along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif when the duo returned to the country from London. The arrest was in compliance with July 6 court order, convicting them in the Avenfield properties reference.

An accountability court, in Avenfield corruption reference, awarded 10 years prison term to the PML-N supreme leader, while his daughter Maryam and her spouse Capt. Safdar were handed seven years’ and one year’s prison term, respectively.
