Over 1.2 crore Pakistanis rendered jobless due coronavirus pandemic crisis

ISLAMABAD - Over 1.2 crore Pakistanis rendered jobless due coronavirus pandemic crisis, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar has revealed.

He said on Saturday that the coronavirus pandemic has rendered 12 million people jobless across Pakistan.

While addressing media in Multan, the Punjab governor lamented that the people are not taking the pandemic issue seriously. “Bad times are around the corner,” he warned.

Sarwar said that if the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were not followed by people then the government will have no choice but to take ‘hard decisions’ regarding mosques.

He said that in case of more patients, the hostels of universities will be turned into quarantine facilities.

President Dr Arif Alvi, along with the country’s ulema, earlier agreed upon a 20-point formula to open up the mosques amid the coronavirus pandemic. Announcing the decision this week, the president called it a consensus of the Muslim community in Pakistan.
