India's only Naval Aircraft Carrier catches fire at Karwar harbour Karnatake

*KARWAR, Karnataka: A naval officer died in a fire broke out at the India’s only aircraft carrier ‘INS Vikramaditya‘ at Karwar harbour in Karnataka state, Indian media reported on Friday.*
Lieutenant Commander DS Chauhan was reportedly lost life in the incident, *NDTV* link reported quoting Indian Navy’s statement.
According to the reports, Chauhan lost consciousness due to the smoke and fumes during the firefighting efforts and later he died after being evacuated to the hospital.
The fire was brought under control by the ship’s crew and reportedly prevented the only aircraft carrier from any serious damage affecting the ship’s combat capability.
Following the fire incident, an inquiry board has been ordered to find out the reasons. However, no further details were disclosed regarding the damages and casualties.
The $2.3 billion aircraft carrier *‘INS Vikramaditya’ *had commissioned into the Indian Navy in November 2013 at the Sevmash shipyard in north Russia’s Severodvinsk and brought to India in January 2014.
The reports said that the aircraft carrier is 284 metres long and 60 metres high — that’s about as high as a 20-storeyed building. The ship weighs 40,000 tonnes and is the biggest and heaviest ship in the Indian Navy.
