ISLAMABAD - In a big relief, PTI government unveils new winter power tariff for consumers across Pakistan.

The federal government is going to introduce a flat tariff regime for electricity consumers having ToD (Time and Day) meters. The new rates will be Rs. 11.97 per unit throughout the winter reason.

The move will not only provide massive relief to the government, but it will also help it slip out of the capacity payment trap of Rs. 849 billion, as idle power projects will also come into use during the winter.

According to an official source at the Power Division, the department has prepared a summary which will be presented before the ECC in the next meeting for approval.

After the final approval from the federal cabinet, the summary tariff is most likely to be imposed from November. The new tariff regime will stay till February 2020, the source added.

Currently, there are two power tariff regimes in the country: peak hours tariff, and an off-peak tariff.

Yes, we are going to offer flat tariff at Rs11.97 to the domestic and commercial consumers using electricity through ToD (Time of Day) meters.

The flat tariff regime will also apply to industrial consumers of B1 and B2, Joint Secretary (Power) at Power Division, Zargham Eshaq Khan confirmed.

He added that the new regime will not affect the NEPRA tariffs that are based on monthly and quarterly fuel adjustments.
