A slap on the face of the Indian PM Modi’s hatred politics against Muslims

*NEW DELHI — *Results of the Assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, and by-polls in several key states could be seen as a slap on the face of the hate politics of the ruling BJP, Sangh Parivar and their affiliates.

Across the country, as many as 19 Muslims have won these latest Assembly polls – 3 in Haryana, 10 in Maharashtra, 2 each in Bihar and Kerala and 1 each in Assam and Uttar Pradesh.

More importantly than the number, the Muslim candidates have won by directly defeating BJP or its allies on 12 seats while on 3 seats saffron camp finished on 3rd or 4th position.

For days around the polling day (Monday), there had been organised, hateful campaigns against Muslims on social media – first against the Prophet, which was followed by #CompleteBoycottofMuslims. However, the election results of Muslim candidates show common people have rejected the hate campaign against the community. Moreover, the results, announced on Thursday, also reaffirmed that BJP is not invincible, rather people have started withdrawing from it despite the absence of any strong, attractive alternative and narrative.

In the Assembly elections in Haryana, the hotbed of Hindutva politics in recent years that culminated into series of mob violence and mob lynching in the name of cow, three Muslim candidates have emerged as victorious lawmakers. They defeated the BJP on two seats and the one seat where the Muslim candidate defeated Independent, BJP finished 3rd.
