Ex. President Asif Zardari acquitted in SGS and Cotecna cases by NAB court

ISLAMABAD: Former President Asif Zardari was acquitted by the National Accountability Bureau in the SGS and Cotecna cases after 18 years due to lack of evidence. SGS- Cotecna references relates to the award of pre-shipment contracts in which Asif Zardari was facing the allegation to receive 6% kickback. The court said in its verdict that accountability body was unable to present solid evidence and court cannot punish the accused in the absence of real documentation. While talking to media, Zrdari’s counsel Farooq Naek said that his client had been falsely implicated in the political motivated cases. There is no such document which prove the allegation on Zardari. Records of both references was not present and just photocopies were presented to the court. Former Accountability Bureau chief Senator Saifur Rehman had filed these corruption charges against senior PPP leadership to victimize them politically in 1998, he added.
