Pakistan and Maldives have agreed to further expand and strengthen bilateral relations in all areas of mutual interest, including trade, education, tourism, defence and people-to-people contacts.
This was stated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at a joint news conference along with Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in Male.
The Prime Minister said India has undermined and violated the spirit of SAARC Charter by casting shadows on a multilateral forum for regional cooperation.
He said Pakistan and Maldives share common views to make SAARC a vibrant organization for regional development and shared dreams for a peaceful and prosperous region.
The Prime Minister said he also exchanged views with the Maldivian President over ongoing brutal repression and gross human rights violations by the Indian forces in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Nawaz Sharif will participate as a chief guest in celebrations of 52nd Independence Day of Maldives on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom said the bonds of goodwill will continue to manifest themselves in ever-closer cooperation between the two countries.
