ISLAMABAD - Although no physical damage was caused but Mangla Dam faces blow from earthquake as it lost over 900 Mega Watt electricity from the powerful earthquake.
Mangla Dam, situated on Jhelum River near Mirpur Azad Kashmir, remained safe during the earthquake that hit northern areas of the country yesterday.
Primary water reservoir was safe, but it lost 900 megawatts due to the quake. He feared that some cities might face a power shortage due to this loss.
However, an official spokesman said that both the dam and its powerhouse remained unharmed during the 5.8-magnitude earthquake.
The spokesperson said that they were gathering the data to issue an official statement in this regard. He noted that the power jolts ended up dirtying the water in Mangla Lake.
At least two dozen people have lost their lives as a result of this massive earthquake with Azad Kashmir affected the most. At least 250 people have been injured, and hundreds of houses have been destroyed.
