Women special seats in National Assembly: ECP clarifies report

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday clarified the discussion held on news channel on change in formula of women special seats in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. -

In a clarification, it said under 24th constitutional amendment, the seats for general election and bye-election were distributed on the basis of delimitation.

It said the commission has the right to move for legal action and asked to avoid any such discussion without facts and figure.

It said it was totally wrong that the ECP has increased the women special seats in Punjab from 32 to 33 while decreased 10 to nine women special seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It said as per formula, out of total 60 women special seats, fout seats have been allocated for Balochistan, nine for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33 for Punjab and 14 for Sindh.
