Mobile phone jammers being installed in Punjab jails  

FAISALABAD: (APP) Mobile phone jammers are being installed in all jails of Faisalabad region to improve the security.

Talking to APP here on Sunday, DIG Prisons Faisalabad Region Abdur Rauf Rana said that there were 9 prisons in Faisalabad region including 6 district jails, 2 central jails and one borstal jail and all the prisons were overcrowded.

He said that Central Jail Faisalabad had the capacity of 1066 prisoners but at present 3226 prisoners were housed in the jail.

Similarly, 1698 prisoners had been lodged in district jail Faisalabad against its capacity of 900 inmates, he said and added that now total 11,922 prisoners were housed in the jails of Faisalabad region against the total capacity of 6685 prisoners.

The DIG Prisons further said that 3163 convicts including 62 females were lodged in the jails, of whom 163 were condemned prisoners who had approached to the Supreme Court and filed appeals against their conviction whereas 180 condemned prisoners were under trial and their appeals had been filed in the High Court.

He said the increasing number of jail birds including notorious criminals had posed a security risk in almost all prisons. Therefore, the jail administration has chalked out a comprehensive strategy to beef up the security in and around all prisons of Faisalabad region.
