Why Defence Ministry has refused to provide security to General (R) Pervaiz Musharaf?

ISLAMABAD: The minister of defense has refused the provision of security to former president Pervez Musharraf on his arrival in Pakistan saying that he is being tried in high treason case and provision of security to such kind of accused was not come in its discretion powers.

In its letter to former army chief Pervez Musharraf’s counsel, ministry of defence through its letter on March 20 informed him that his client Musharraf would have to come Pakistan to face court in high treason cases and he wanted foolproof security, however it was not possible as the provision of security to such kind of accused was not come under the powers of defence ministry.

It pertinent to mention that ex army chief has also written letter to interior ministry seeking foolproof security on his arrival in Pakistan to face high treason cases.

The interior ministry, in contrast, on March 19 accepted the plea for security from former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s upon his return to Pakistan to appear before the special court in the high treason case.
