Anti-polio campaign launched for one million children of FATA

PESHAWAR (APP): Three days anti-polio campaign starts in selected areas of FATA and Frontier Regions from Monday with all arrangements have been completed.

Active campaign will continue for three days followed by catch up of missed children in FR Lakki, FR DIKhan, FR Tank, FR Bannu, Khyber Agency, North Waziristan Agency and South Waziristan Agency, under the supervision and security provided by political agents, commissioners, para-military and military forces.

A total of 965,675 children below the age of 5 years will be vaccinated by a teams 1888 teams including comprising 1744 mobile teams, 103 fixed teams and 41 transit teams, says a release of the Emergency Operation Center FATA issued here on Sunday.

Earlier in June 2016 two anti-polio campaigns were completed wherein first a case response in FR Dera Ismail Khan, FR Tank and South Waziristan Agency during which 12,4257 children were vaccinated and second campaign was carried out in de-notified 36 villages of 3 Tehsils in South Waziristan Agency wherein oral polio vaccine (OPV) was administered to 4418 children and Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) to 1222 children.

First polio case of the year in FATA was reported in June 2016 from South Waziristan Agency. In response to which aggressive door to door campaign will be carried out in the current campaign.

In a recent meeting held at EOC FATA on July 12, 2016 to analyze the situation and reasons that caused recent polio case in South Waziristan Agency, EOC Coordinator Shakeel Qadir Khan expressed determination that recurrence of such a situation will not be allowed to happen.

He directed EOC FATA team to make all out efforts to reach and vaccinate every child and focus on identifying and accessing missed children.
