Islamabad High Court announces verdict in former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi bail plea

ISLAMABAD - Islamabad High Court announces verdict in former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi bail plea.

The IHC ordered Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to submit a surety of Rs10 million. Meanwhile, the court ordered that passports of Abbasi and Iqbal will remain in custody of the National Accountability Bureau.

During the hearing, the NAB prosecutor opposed granting bail to Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in LNG scandal. The NAB prosecutor told the court that a reference against Abbasi has already been filed in the accountability court.

The bureau further requested to reject the bail plea of PML-N leader and submitted a reply comprising 24 pages in the court.

The National Accountability Bureau had filed cases against Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ahsan Iqbal over corruption in liquefied natural gas and Narowal Sports City project respectively.

On July 18, 2019 Abbasi was arrested by NAB while en-route to Thokar Niaz Baig in Lahore in a multi-billion-rupee case related to the award of a liquefied natural gas import contract, while Ahsan Iqbal was nabbed on December 23, 2019.
