Federal government to reduce POL prices: Sources

ISLAMABAD - Federal government has hinted to review petroleum prices by slashing the taxes on POL products.

Federal Minister petroleum Ghulam Sarwar has stated that diesel prices would be made at par with the price of petrol.

Ghulam Sarwar was addressing a press conference here on Friday.

Diesel was cheaper than petrol but now its price is higher than the petrol and the government would review it, he further said.

Sarwar said the prices of petroleum products and taxes would be reviewed and fixed in accordance with the international market.

Replying to a query, the minister said that all major agreements particularly those which were hidden would be examined and placed on ministry’s official website. The ministry would examine itself all such agreements before any step of National Accountability Bureau (NAB), he added.

He said efforts would be made to start of Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline (TAPI) project by 2019. Regarding Iran Pakistan gas pipeline the minister said that the federal government was not moving ahead with the project due to sanctions imposed on Iran.

Iran may try to go to International court against Pakistan, however, the government would try to avoid reaching such situation.
