Pakistan proposes current World Bank President for re election

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday proposed current World Bank President and Dr. Jim Yong Kim for re-election, keeping in view his impressive performance for global economic revival, development and poverty alleviation.

He said Dr Jim be re-elected as WB President for another five-year term.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance here, Ishaq Dar also appreciated the support of the World Bank and its President for the development projects of Pakistan.

Acknowledging the services of Dr. Kim the Minister said, "Pakistan has found in Dr Kim a close friend and supporter of growth initiatives in the country.

He said Dr Kim's term ends in June 2017 and the nomination process for the election of next World Bank President has virtually begun.

"In view of the impressive performance of Dr Kim for global economic revival, development and poverty alleviation, Pakistan proposes that Dr Kim be re-elected as President for another five year term", Ishaq Dar said.

The Finance Minister said "The World Bank has been a very close development partner for Pakistan in the recent years. In particular, during the last three years, the World Bank has assisted Pakistan in structural reforms of various sectors".

Pakistan, he said has appreciated the World Bank and President Dr Jim Yong Kim for being partners in key infrastructure projects in energy sector as well as in energy and growth related reforms since year 2013.
