Afghan security checkposts on sale for Rs 300,000: Report

KABUL - *Ghazni police commander Mohammad Zaman on Tuesday said two members of the Afghan National Police (ANP) were arrested on charges of plotting to sell a security check post to the Taliban. *
The two officers are from Baghlan province but were stationed in Ghazni. They had plotted to sell the check post along with ammunition and weapons to the Taliban when we arrested them, said Mohammad Zaman.
According to the Ghazni police chief, the two officers had established contact with the Taliban in Andar district and had plotted to sell the check post and weapons to the group for 300,000 Pakistani rupees.
“They acknowledged their ties with the Taliban, investigations are going on from them to find out whether some other people also coordinated with them or not,” said Zaman.
Both officers meanwhile have confessed to their crime during the investigations, officials said.
“We contacted the Taliban through Laghman,” said one of policemen.
Ghazni is one of the most volatile provinces in Afghanistan and Taliban have a strong presence in some areas in the province.
Over the past few weeks, security in Ghazni’s Muqur, Dahyak, Qarabagh and Andar district have deteriorated and several battles have been reported between the Taliban and Afghan security forces.
