Islamabad United defeats Quetta Gladiators to clinch first ever PSL Trophy
DUBAI: Islamabad United defeated Quetta Gladiators in PSL Final and become the first champion of Pakistan Super League.

 

Islamabad United won the toss and invited Quetta Gladiators to bat first in the final of PSL which was held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

 

Ahmed Shehzad and Sri Lankan batsmen Kumar Sangakara both contributed half-centuries to set a target of 175 runs for the loss of 7 wickets from Quetta side.

 

Andre Russell got 3 wickets for 31 runs; Irfan got 2 while Badree and Mohammad Sami took one wicket each for Islamabad United.

 

Islamabad United achieved the target in 18.4 overs with 6 wickets in hand.

 

Dwayne Smith contributed 73 runs in 51 balls and Brad Haddin scored 61 runs in 39 balls to achieve the target.

 

Dwayne Smith was awarded man of the match for his outstanding batting of 73 runs in 51 balls while Andre Russell was deckared as top wicket taker of the event.

 

Umar Akmal was awarded the title of best fielder, best batsman and leading run scorer.

 

UAE’s Minister of culture, Youth and Community Development Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan was the chief guest of the ceremony and National anthem of UAE and Pakistan was also played before the start of the final match.

 

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his sister Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari were also present in the event.
