FTA to be signed during PM's visit to China

Second phase of free trade agreement will be signed during Prime Minister's visit to China. Prime Minister's Special Assistant Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan reiterated that interest of local industry will be protected in this phase of agreement. 

Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan held her first press briefing on Federal Cabinet meeting after assuming the charge. 

She said 22-item agenda discussed in the cabinet meeting.

Prime Minister Imran Khan's upcoming visit to China came under discussion in the meeting.

She said economic mobility will create job opportunities in Pakistan.

She added that Prime Minister Imran Khan believed in democratic and corruption free Pakistan.

Firdous Ashiq Awan said cabinet members felicitated Prime Minister Imran Khan on successful visit to Iran.

She said we are thankful to Iranian leadership for supporting Pakistan on Kashmir issue.

Dr. Firdous said Pakistan and Iran need to enhance trade ties and pm's yesterday's speech was way forward for both Iran and Pakistan.


Talking about unrest in the country due to surge in medicines prices she said cabinet dilated upon the matter.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister said that Dr Zafarullah apprised cabinet of his findings regarding drugs price hike.

She said unreasonable profit earned by medicines companies will be recovered and submitted in Bait-ul-Maal.

Dr. Firdous said cabinet also discussed LNG agreements signed by previous governments.

She said role of provincial governments is very important to control inflation.

She said government is taking different steps to drop the inflation rate.

Cabinet has also decided to regulate role of middleman to control inflation.

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that ministers have been directed to introduce people friendly policies. 

She said revolutionary steps are being expected from Hafeez Sheikh.
