SC seeks explanation from ECP for banning recruitment in govt departments

ISLAMABAD:The Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission and IT experts to submit report regarding online voting system for overseas Pakistanis by 15th of next month.

A three-judge Bench of the Apex Court headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, while hearing the case regarding right of vote to overseas Pakistanis said in Islamabad today that secrecy, safety and hacking will be three key areas, which must be considered by the IT experts so that the process of election does not get eclipsed in anyway.

Earlier, the same bench took up several important suo motu cases, including the one regarding Election Commission's ban on recruitments. The court asked the Election Commission of Pakistan to clarify the reason behind banning recruitments in government institutions.

The Court asked as to under which law it banned the recruitments by public institutions.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned till tomorrow and notices were issued to the attorney general and advocates general of the provinces.

About the suo motu case regarding drying of Katas Raj Temple pond, the Supreme Court summoned the officials who had allowed use of water by cement factories, including Chairmen Environmental Protection Agency and also the former Secretary Industries.

 The Court also sought from the cement factories the permits that allowed them use of underground waters of River Jhelum.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned till Wednesday next. APP/AFP
