IHC suspends punishment of accused in Tayyaba torture case

ISLAMABAD:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday suspended the sentence of a former judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife Maheen Zafar in minor girl Tayyaba torture case.
A divisional bench of IHC comprising justices Athar Minullah and Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the appeal filed by accused challenging one-year imprisonment.
The petitioner had stated in their plea that the trial court ignored various facts while deciding the case. The media had created hype in the matter.
They requested the court to turn down the punishment announced by the single member bench of IHC.
After hearing the arguments, the court suspended the punishment and adjourned hearing of the case till two weeks.
The IHC’s single bench comprising Aamer Farooq announced its verdict on April 17, in the Tayyaba torture case and awarded one-year punishment to each.
