Captain (R) Safdar gets a big relief from Supreme Court

*ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an appeal of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to cancel the bail granted to Captain (retd) Safdar, son-in-law of former premier Nawaz Sharif, in the Avenfield case. *

Headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, a bench of the apex court rejected the appeal against a verdict of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that rejected the bureau’s request to cancel the post-arrest bail granted to Capt Safdar.

On September 26, the accountability court had issued bailable warrants for the arrest of the former premier’s son-in-law after his failure to appear before it. Later, the court issued non-bailable warrants on Oct 2.

He was arrested on Oct 8 after his arrival from London at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport. When he was produced before the trial court a day later, it granted him post-arrest bail against a surety of Rs five million.
