ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Friday denounced the passage of Election Bill 2017 from Senate, a move which has paved way for ousted premier Nawaz Sharif to head his political party despite his disqualification.
The bill was adopted by the Upper House of the Parliament with a vote of 38 to 37.
Reacting to the passage of the bill, Imran Khan
accused the ruling PML-N of destroying last vestiges of ethics and morality by removing a clause in Election Reform Bill preventing a disqualified person heading a party
He said that the PMLN was doing this simply to resuscitate Nawaz Sharif politically after he was found guilty of corruption, money laundering, tax evasion and forgery.
On the other hand, PML-N has called the bill a major success of democratic forces.
PML-N’s senior leader Mushahid Ullah Khan confirmed that the move would pave the way for Nawaz Sharif to become PML-N President.
