PEMRA issues show cause notice to ARY  

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Friday issued show cause notice to ARY News for not complying with its earlier directive of August 10.

In the previous directive, PEMRA had banned program "Live with Dr. Shahid Masood" of ARY News for 45 days.

According to PEMRA notice, ARY never complied with order rather evidently and deliberately flouted its order from August 15 to September 20.

PEMRA asked ARY News to reply to its notice within 10 days or face unilateral action.

Islamabad High Court (IHC) had already rejected an appeal of ARY television to lift ban on the show.

In case of continued non-compliance, PEMRA will issue separate show cause notices for each actionable cause of violation of each day and impose a fine of Rs one million each day, for contravening the licence obligations.

PEMRA can also initiate a complaint in writing before a First Class Magistrate against M/s ARY Communications for violation and against its directors and partners for abetting violation of the licensee obligations.

PEMRA may also initiate a complaint in writing before a First Class Magistrate against ARY for repeating violation.

According to the notice, PEMRA can also suspend or revoke ARY

News Licence due to contravening licensee obligations.
