All-Pakistan Challenge Football Cup first edition planned

PESHAWAR (APP): The first edition of the All-Pakistan Challenge Football Cup will be commencing from October 1, 2016 under the aegis of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Football Association at Sumbal Khan Football Ground, Qayyum Sports Complex here.

This was stated by Organizing Secretary and former international footballer Basit Kamal while talking to APP here on Friday. He said, arrangements in this connection have already been continued with cutting of lush green grass and leveling process is on to provide best playing facilities to the top team vie for the honor.

He said top teams comprising PIA, PTV, Pakistan Wapda, KESC, Islamabad, Punjab, Khan Research Laborites (KRL), Pakistan Police, FATA, Pakistan Air Force and host Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will participate. The teams he said have been divided in four different groups.

In the group-A he said PTV, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Police, in group-B PIA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Red and Islamabad, in group-C FATA, Pakistan Wapda and KRL while in group-D teams comprising PAF KESC, and Punjab.

He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Football Association in collaboration with Pakistan Football Federation and Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is holding the event. Son of a veteran footballer Baba Kamal, Basit, who is also Secretary General of the KP Football Association, said that former Health Minister and President KP Football Association Syed Zahir Ali Shah will formally inaugurate the Cup. He said officials of the Pakistan Football Federation and leading footballers have also invited to Peshawar to see top teams in action during the Cup to be played on league basis.

It is good that the upcoming footballers would see top players in action during the Cup, Basit Kamal said. He said for the smooth conduct of the Cup a Technical Committee and Umpiring Committee Headed by Malik Hidayat and Qazi Asif have been constituted.

The members of the Technical Committee comprising Zahir Ul Khair, Shakir Ullah, Ahmad Lala while in the umpiring committee members including Anwar Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Ikram Ullah, Abid Khan would assists both Haji Hidayat Ullah and Qazi Asif.

He said KP Football Association is financing the national event, after a break of almost five years and hopefully the teams would be provided all out facilities so they players could enjoy their stay while playing football.

He said Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) champions K-Electric is all geared up to compete. He said KE team has reached Islamabad to participate in the training camp currently underway at Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad.
