President for further enhancing Pakistan-Azerbaijan ties in diverse fields

President Dr. Arif Alvi says defence cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan has been strengthening steadily.

He was talking to Azerbaijan's Chief of State Border Service Colonel General Elchin Guliyev in Islamabad on Monday.

The President said the two countries have common position on key global and regional issues and they support each other at international forums, which is a reflection of close and brotherly relations between the two counties.

He stressed the need for enhancing bilateral trade between Pakistan and Azerbaijan saying the present state of bilateral economic cooperation is not commensurate with its true potential.

Dr. Arif Alvi said Pakistan highly values its close brotherly relations with Azerbaijan and is desirous of further enhancing these relations in all fields.

President Dr. Arif Alvi has called upon private sector of the country to come forward to play their role in promotion of export based industry to strengthen the national economy.

He was talking to a delegation of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry led by its President Ghazanfar Bilour which called on him in Islamabad on Monday.

The President pointed out that the increase in exports is of vital importance to narrow down trade deficit. He said establishment of new industrial zones is very important for the expansion of industry. He also underlined that the industrial zones should be established in such a manner that export sectors must benefit from these and all sectors of manufacturing should be given equal opportunities.

The President said increase in local manufacturing, especially in auto mobile industry, will benefit the country.

The President said that institutions meant to benefit common people, have suffered huge losses due to corruption, mismanagement and inefficiency.

Dr. Arif Alvi urged the business community to play their part in promoting tax culture in the country.

Meanwhile, Minister for Housing and Wrks Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema and Senator Rukhsana Zuberi also called on President Dr. Arif Alvi in Islamabad.

They discussed matteres of mutual interest and political issues.

Outgoing Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar paid a farewell call on President Dr. Arif Alvi at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad today.

President Dr. Arif Alvi commended the services of Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar as the head of the premier intelligence agency.

He said ISI has been rendering remarkable services in the defence of motherland and fight against terrorism.

He praised the professionalism and leadership qualities of Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar in discharge of his responsibilities.

The President also expressed his good wishes for Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar and his family in their future life.
