Pakistan, China to defeat forces working against their dream of economic prosperity: FM

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday said Pakistan and China would defeat the forces trying to halt their shared journey of development and economic prosperity.
“We are well aware of the nefarious designs of some elements working against peace and stability and we are taking steps in this regard,” the Foreign Minister said at a press conference here outside the Parliament House soon after security forces foiled attack at Chinese Consulate in Karachi.
Two policemen lost their lives as one of the three terrorists detonated hand grenade in an attempt to enter the Chinese Consulate situated in Karachi's Clifton area. All three attackers were killed during the operation.
To a question on any clue of those involved in the incident, Qureshi said it was premature to ascertain at the moment, however said the investigations had been initiated.
He said the foremost priority was to ensure the safety of the lives of staffers at the Chinese Consulate.
He confirmed that the all 21 staffers at the Consulate remained unhurt and had been shifted to safer locations.
He said swift response by Sindh Police and Rangers foiled the attack and cordoned off the area, for which they deserved utmost appreciation.
Foreign Minister Qureshi said the incident happened at a time when Pakistan and China were expecting to enter a new phase of investment and job opportunities for the people.
He mentioned that a special security force had been raised to protect the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The Foreign Minister said he would soon speak to his Chinese counterpart on telephone over the incident. He said Pakistan’s embassy in Beijing had been updated for necessary briefing to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
