ISLAMABAD: A study conducted by USAID shows that Pakistan has more than 10,000 trillion cubic feet of shale gas and 2323 billion barrels of oil reserves. The study was conduct in different areas of Pakistan. While talking to media in a press conference, Minister for Petroleum and Gas Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the recent findings given by USAID are much bigger than all previous studies conducted by US Energy Information Administration (EIA). He further stated that the survey was conducted with the help of US Agency for International Development in January 2014 and completed in November this year. Abassi further said that the instructions have been given to the Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) to extract shale hydrocarbon reserves in the country. “Pakistan has 20 trillion cubic feet of conventional gas and 385 million barrels of oil. Gas is enough to meet the needs for 15 years at the existing pace of production,” he said.
