Nawaz Sharif provided with AC and TV in the Adiala Jail

*ISLAMABAD: *Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been provided with a television set and Air Conditioner in the barrack where he is being kept in solitary confinement.

His daughter, Maryam Nawaz, who is also detained in solitary confinement a few barracks away, was provided with a newspaper for the first time on Saturday.

However, her repeated requests for a pen and paper were turned down by the jail authorities.

Meanwhile, Nawaz’s son-in-law, Capt (retd) Safdar, has lost three to four kilograms of weight because he was denied the diet prescribed by his doctors.

A little over a week after the Sharifs were incarcerated at Rawalpindi’s central jail, they met their legal team for the first on Saturday for roughly one-and-a-half hour.

Members of their legal team included Khawaja Haris, Amjad Pervaiz, Saad Hashmi, Aurangzeb Rao, Zaafir Khan Tareen and Azam Nazir Tarar.

After the lawyers’ visit, it emerged that the Sharifs were being kept in separate barracks measuring 12×12 feet. Hygiene is not up to the mark and mosquitoes were in abundance.

The Sharifs and others are not allowed to meet each other and their rooms are locked up at 5pm every evening and opened again at 5am the next morning.

Verandahs around their barracks are also locked.

The lawyers said that their clients were all in high spirits. They did not provide much detail.
